8th March, a day to celebrate the achievements and
appreciate the hard work of remarkable women around the globe. The glaring
disparity between men and women is quite obvious in today’s day and age. Yet HOPE- an NGO in Pakistan takes pride in
being one of the institutes which is driven only and only my female authorities
since its inception in 1997.
“The hand that rocks the cradle, the pro-creator, the mother
of tomorrow, a WOMEN shapes the destiny of civilization, such is the tragic
irony of faith that a beautiful creation such as a girl child is today one of
the gravest concerns facing humanity.”
This quote only shows that even though no one can put into
words the importance of girls, they are still not allowed to set foot in a
classroom only because of the fact that the money spent on adolescent girls is
wasted as their destiny lies in getting married and producing babies. HOPE- an educational NGO in Pakistan gives
women a chance to excel in Embroidery, cutting, sewing, computer classes and
English language classes through the exceptionally designed vocational centers.
The inequality barriers and issues of women being suppressed
in rural areas is enough fuel to add to the fire which drives the passion in Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla- a child
specialist in Karachi and The chairperson of HOPE. She believes
that a girl’s education not just empowers communities but also economies. Dr.
Mubina has travelled the globe in presenting her groundbreaking work,
collaborating with many famous institutes, one of them being P&G.
Women and girls in HOPE are applauded for their acts of
bravery, acknowledged for cutting-edge work in the field of Education and
health. All Women involved in HOPE work day in and day out to provide high
quality education and free of cost medical services to Women and children
specifically. HOPE’s Mother and Child Health (MCH) centers are setting the bars
high. So much so that HOPE, in addition to 2 of the already establishes MCH
centers, now opened another one in Qayyumabad.
HOPE is determined to make a difference in the lives of
women, in whatever way possible, be it minor or major. Some courageous women of
HOPE having done some monumental work are working as field workers in far flung
areas of Punjab and AJK. Following are some outstanding women of HOPE: Dr.
Rehana- a Gynecologist who is out of her house making her rounds in various
hospitals of HOPE from morning to night. Mrs. Aisha Noorani- The principle of
HOPE School Zia Colony. (HOPE’s most attended School). Dr. Abida- Child
specialist, Erum- Principle of Muzaffargarh HOPE formal School. Fauzia-
In-charge of Home Schools- AJK at HOPE and the list can go on and on.
All in all HOPE has done some impeccable work in the past and
continues to do so. Let us all join hands in giving women the place they
deserve in the community. So here’s to strong women, May we know them, May we
be them and May we raise them.
