EXTENDING THE BLESSINGS TO THE UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES IN THATTA

HOPE- An NGO in Pakistan has been working relentlessly to improve living conditions of the communities in Thatta. Thatta is a downtrodden area situated 150 kilometers away from Karachi. It is home to 250,000 people. The area lacks quality health and education infrastructure. Small houses, congested area, shaggy clothes best describe the condition of Thatta. Poverty penetrating in the lives of people is clearly visible. Resources are fewer as compared to the size of population. To fill this gap, HOPE has established a school in Thatta that provides free of cost education up till Grade 10 to the underprivileged children; and a general hospital providing state of the art health care services for the people of Thatta specially women and children.

HOPE includes people in the stream of life by sharing moments of happiness. HOPE-An Educational NGO in Pakistan arranged grand iftar at HOPE School Thatta. This year’s annual iftar at Thatta was as usual a huge success, in which HOPE team has served a larger number of underprivileged communities. The teachers struggled to seat the excited students in preparation for iftar, a delicious affair consisting of a wide variety of popular iftar dishes: the customary dates, along with biryani and spring rolls, samosas and patties, bananas and brownies together with water and sherbet to quench their thirst after a long hot day of fasting.

After iftar, the sated children’s excitement only seemed to increase in anticipation for the next segment of the evening’s program: Eid gift distribution. Each and every single student was gifted a new, festive, Eid dress. One by one, each child received their gift. Just like education, these fancy clothes would have been completely out of reach for these kids and their families had it not been for HOPE. Their unadulterated joy was reflected in their eyes. Over 350 students, patients and their families enjoyed this prolific iftar event which was held in collaboration with Human Concern International.

Along with iftar feast and Eid clothes distribution, HOPE team also distributed ration to the needy families. HOPE team has doled out hundreds of ration bags among the socially deprived individuals of Thatta, specially poor and needy students and their families.

Under the leadership of Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla - A Child Specialist in Karachi, HOPE goes to extra efforts to reach out, as is clearly seen through the numerous and very diverse projects and events happening daily during the holy month of Ramadan. These projects are possible only due to the ever increasing volunteers and donations HOPE receives from individuals and organizations worldwide like Dubai ladies, Human Concern International, Standard Chartered Bank, Robin Hood Army Pakistan, Metro Cash & Carry, Fahim’s School System etc.

DAILY FOOD DISTRIBUTION-AN IMPORTANT PART OF HOPE RAMADAN ACTIVITIES

There is more than enough food in the world, but some overeat while others go hungry. Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) is reported to have said, “He is not a Muslim who goes to bed gratified while his next-door neighbor goes hungry”.  Inviting people to share iftar, sending food to neighbours and reaching out to new Muslims and people from out-of-town that might otherwise be eating alone in Ramadan, increase reward in the Hereafter. HOPE-An NGO in Pakistan extends this spirit of Ramadan by distributing food everyday till Eid. Variety of foods are included in the menu to serve thousands of people who are socially deprived. These are the individuals who belong to the hard working labor class who cannot afford to have enough food to curb their hunger. Often, many of us take for granted what others consider luxury. This privilege we have, to take our blessings for granted, comes with great responsibility to reach out to the less privileged. Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla-A Child Specialist in Karachi, Chairperson HOPE, personally takes interest in reaching out to maximum number of downtrodden communities, making sure nobody stays hungry during this holy month.  She gives them an opportunity to enjoy the sumptuous food that they could ever wish for.

HOPE-An Educational NGO in Pakistan knows it is a privilege to have luxurious food where thousands of people in the city are malnourished. In the scorching heat, HOPE team brings food boxes, biryani, qorma roti, juice etc with them every day to serve the underprivileged population in poor slums and rural areas of Pakistan where HOPE has been working to eradicate poverty. HOPE distributes these food items in Bhattaiabad, Rehri Goth, Sachal Goth, Ghaggar, Pipri, Link Road, Gaddap, Gharo, Dhabeji, Abdullah Shah Gazi Goth, Zia Colony,Bilal Colony, Qayyumabad, Manzoor Colony, Mujahid Colony etc. HOPE has been serving 560 individuals on daily basis, which makes a grand total of 17360 people being served this Ramadan. The happiness that appeared on their faces after getting food is everything HOPE wants to see.

ANNUAL RESULT CEREMONY HELD AT HOPE HOME SCHOOLS AZAD JAMMU AND KASHMIR

Every year, annual result ceremony takes place at HOPE home schools in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The hard-working, dedicated and brilliant students get awarded in the ceremony. This activity encourages and motivates the students to work harder to be able to achieve their aims in life.

After the successful completion of academic year, annual result ceremony was held at different HOPE Home schools in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The students who excelled in the examinations were awarded prizes and trophies. Prize distribution ceremony was held at HOPE home schools situated in Thotta and Malsi, district of Garhidupatta; and Dakhan, Parhour, Dhani Bakalan, Bani Langriyal and Habibdori and Dara Batangi in Chinari, district of Hatiyanbala near the main city of Muzaffarabad.

The result ceremony started with the recitation of Quranic verses, followed by the recitation of Hamd & Naat.  The students performed on different patriotic and folk songs. They also presented tableau performances. Pre-primary students sang poems to entertain the audience. Senior students debated on various topics.

The home schools run by HOPE-An Educational NGO in Pakistan have been providing quality education since last 13 years, from Nursery till Grade 8th. The home schools have attained unfaltering trust of the local community. Parents send their children to these home schools happily.

HOPE-An NGO in Pakistan also arranges Parent-Teacher Meeting alongside the result ceremony to create awareness among the parents and children. These meetings are very important to communicate with the children and their families to help them improve their results. They get progress reports of their children regularly. The report includes whole set of the assessment sheets so they can see the progress themselves. Teachers encourage parents to monitor the study schedule of the children. If they give more time to studies they would be able to gain more knowledge beyond just passing the exams.

The unmatched success of HOPE home schools is result of the efforts Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla-A Child Specialist in Karachi made to establish and maintain these schools in remote valleys of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. She visits the home schools every year to maintain the high standards HOPE promised. She specially focuses on girls’ education which was often neglected before the establishment of HOPE home schools in the area. So far, HOPE has setup 35 informal registered schools located on various mountain tops in Azad Jammu and Kashmir which are providing quality education.
