HOPE has been doing commendable job in Pakistan by providing
its services in the field of education. Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla-A Child
Specialist in Karachi extended education to the underprivileged
children in many villages and urban slums of Pakistan, and developed
innovations that help improve the quality of education. Providing education is
one of the priority areas of HOPE, which is vital for the economic, social and
cultural development of all societies.
HOPE-An NGO in Pakistan worked on the concept of informal home
schools to reach the maximum number of students in a cost-effective manner. These
schools are located in the houses of the educated local girls who are provided
honoraria. Several classes and grades study together. There is no compulsion to
wear any kind of uniform in these schools. The children are provided free of
cost education, including books, stationary, school bags etc. The schools are
located in different slum areas and villages. Two such schools are located in
Bhitaiiabad where the local community is comprised of low income working class.
The students who study in these schools are the children of laborers, drivers,
maids who work in the houses to earn living for them. These students are living
under the poverty line. Their childhood is not like that of other children.
They have to work along with their parents to earn money besides helping out in
house chores and babysitting their siblings when their mothers are at work. The
home schools in Bhittaiiabad have been adopted by The Fahims School System.
HOPE-An Educational NGO in
Pakistan also creates
opportunities for civil society to come and join hands in the benevolent cause
of providing education as well as moral support to the underprivileged children
in every nook and corner. Students of The Fahims School System-Senior Boys
Branch, often visit these home schools to spend some time and share some more
goodies with these children. The purpose of this visit was to outreach to them
personally and show empathy towards them. Recently, one of the informal home schools
in Bhittaiabad was privileged to welcome on board the senior students and a
teacher of The Fahims Schooling System. They engaged in a healthy interaction
with children by asking them simple questions to motivate them and rewarded
them with different gifts. They asked them few general knowledge questions
according to various age groups present in the home school. The children were
happy with this activity and participated enthusiastically. The students
donated various stationary items, pencil boxes, snacks, juices, and two floor
mats to the home school. HOPE has a strong and long lasting bond with The Fahims
School System and as always appreciates the support and assistance provided by
them.
