Global
Dignity Day takes place in schools on the third Wednesday of October each year
engaging students in a conversation on dignity. The aim is to make the concept
of dignity tangible and understandable for each and every student. Defining
dignity in their own words and sharing stories from their own lives gives
students ownership of the concept.
In
the light of this theme, Beaconhouse
School System, Primary I PECHS celebrated the Global Dignity
Day with an initiative to commend and encourage good practices of dignified and
courageous individuals of our society. The purpose of celebrating this day was
to highlight the fact that all people poor or rich and all occupations/jobs are
bound to equal amounts of respect and have the same importance.
The
event was attended by HOPE Zia School Students
who deliberately participated in the activities arranged by Beaconhouse School
System. The day started with assembly followed by welcome speech. The school
management also invited HOPE’s school principal, Ms. Aisha Noorani as a guest
speaker to speak on the philanthropic work
of HOPE- an NGO in Pakistan under the leadership of Dr.Mubina Agboatwalla-child specialist in Karachi.
Students also presented Urdu poetry, poems and
were engaged in different sports activities. The students did artwork and
received gifts from the management along with refreshment. To appreciate and encourage
future participation form HOPE’s school, Beaconhouse management also provided
story books for the students who were not able to attend the event.
Every
human being regardless of race, culture or social background has the right to
protect his or her dignity. The day has been celebrated in communities all over
the world since 2006.
