Working for the betterment of society
has always been my passion. The blessed month of Ramadan is one of the busiest
time every year for HOPE - A Health NGO in
Pakistan. Just like every year this year also HOPE organized multiple
iftaars, one of which was the annual Bhittaiabad iftaar held on Monday 25th
of April 2022, which was during the last week of ramzan for the students of
HOPE’s informal schools.
These students come from Sachal
Goth, Bhittiabad and Mujahid Colony. The event was alive with keenness from
both excited students and busy staff member of HOPE – An NGO in Pakistan.
Teachers attempted to calm the happy children long enough to seat them. As the
time for iftaar approached, the socialization muted down as the plates of a
date, pattie, samosa, chicken cutlet, banana, spring roll, and brownie were
distributed, accompanied by sharbat and water.
As the students and staff members
finished their iftaari, the socialization and laughter rapidly grew again as
they resumed their delighted chatter. The excitement grew even more when Eid
gifts and clothes were being distributed among the students, as the children
lined up in anticipation for their Eid gifts. Each child was gifted a brightly
colored, festive traditional outfit, something their families would never have
been able to afford. Each child received an outfit of their exact size, which
was individually selected by HOPE staff under the encouragement of Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla - A Child Specialist in Karachi. Many also received food rations especially the
ones in dire need.
The overjoyed were overwhelmed on
receiving their gifts and were joyously showing each other their new outfits
and posing for pictures with their gifts. Teachers once again had to make an
extra effort to calm the students and seat them this time for dinner.
By the end of the event the
students were tired but delighted, the young children left with their
classmates and teachers on buses late at night. All the time and effort is
worth it though, just to see the blissful smiles on the children’s faces.
