Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It effects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determines how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.
HOPE – A Health NGO in Pakistan, focuses on providing services of health for the poor and needy. HOPE has a wide network of health care centers throughout Pakistan which includes Hospitals, Maternal and Child Health Centers and Mobile Health Units.
Taskeen, a non-profit organization working on the promotion of wellness and prevention of mental illness, in collaboration with Sehat Kahani, a health-tech platform connecting female doctors to underserved areas organized a workshop and counseling session at HOPE Zia School for the students and teachers.
A counselor of Sehat Kahani explained what is mental health, how to deal with it and made them aware of the symptoms leading to mental health issues such as: eating or sleeping disorders, pulling away from people and usual activities, having low or no energy, feeling numb or like nothing matters, having unexplained aches and pains, feeling helpless or hopeless, smoking, drinking, or using drugs more than usual.
The session also educated about two ways of dealing with mental health issues such as:
1. Beneficial ways
2. Harmful ways
In order to maintain a balanced health, one must follow beneficial practices i.e. prayer, sharing your problems with others, socializing, listening to music, exercising, doing any sort of creativity like painting etc. These activities assist in reducing and releasing stress also helps in recovering from your problem in a positive way.
It was a beneficial session for HOPE Zia School; which helped them to learn how to deal with mental health problems. HOPE - An NGO in Pakistan, always tries to collaborate with such organizations to promote wellness among children and adults.
Under the leadership of Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla - A Child Specialist in Karachi, HOPE will continue to encourage students and teachers of their school to participate in such activities in order to benefit from such workshops.
