STUDENTS OF AGA KHAN UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL VISIT HOPE GENERAL HOSPITAL & COMMUNITY CENTRE

The dedication and ambition of HOPE – An NGO in Pakistan has attracted some attention of individuals as well as organizations. One of which is Aga Khan University Hospital. The struggle of HOPE sparked a dash of motivation among the students of AKUH.  The Students visited HOPE gave the students a brief over their projects and activities they are involved in and how the deprived communities have benefited though this.

Students from Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) recently had the opportunity to visit HOPE General Hospital & Community Centre on, Thursday 12th February 2026.  HOPE – A Health NGO in Pakistan, which is renowned to providing accessible healthcare and education to underserved communities. The purpose of the visit was to demonstrate how hospitals function within the broader healthcare system, with a focus on healthcare delivery.   25 medical students of 2^nd year from Aga Khan University participated in a field visit to gain perspective on Zia Colony Hospital's role in delivering primary, secondary, and tertiary care. Integration of hospital services within the larger health system. Patient care practices and approaches to maintaining healthcare quality and patient safety. Operational strategies used to overcome challenges in delivering patient care.

This field trip was initiated by the Department of Community Health Services at Aga Khan University.   A pPresentation was given by the senior members of HOPE including Dr. Rehan and Dr. Shagufta the presentation was then continued by the Founder of HOPE Pakistan, Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla – A Child Specialist in Karachi, during her visit.

They delivered an insightful presentation covering key areas such as general health, Pediatrics (PEADs), and Gynecology & Obstetrics (Gynae & Obs). The sessions provided students with a deeper understanding of the healthcare challenges faced by disregarded populations, particularly women and children.

The visit not only enhanced students’ academic knowledge, but also inspired them to think beyond hospital walls and consider the broader social determinants of health. It served as a reminder that compassionate, community-focused healthcare is essential for sustainable development.

Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla, highly encourages individuals as well as organizations to support them in this cause.   Overall, the AKUH students’ visit to HOPE was a meaningful step toward fostering collaboration, learning, and a shared commitment to improving healthcare access across Pakistan.
