Health Education Session for HOPE School Students

Health education builds students' knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes about health. It motivates students to improve and maintain their health, prevent disease, and reduce risky behaviors. The middle years of childhood are extremely sensitive times for a number of health issues, especially when it comes to adopting health behavior that can have lifelong consequences. Moreover, children are key to educate society because children take that education to their home spreading among their family members and people surrounding them.
HOPE- an NGO in Pakistan envision a well educated, health society where women and children have equal rights. Therefore, HOPE- a health NGO in Pakistan, in collaboration with TARGET USA- one of the HOPE’s donor arranges activities to spread awareness among children to build a health society under the supervision of Dr. Mubina Agbotatwalla- child specialist in Karachi.
Members from TARGET USA organize a event where the invited students from HOPE Zia school for delivering health awareness session in which personal hygiene and healthy habits were discuss. Keeping in mind the background of children and considering their surrounding where unhygienic practices make them vulnerable to infectious disease in addition to low health facilities. Students were encourage to share their ideas of health hygiene and active participation of students was observed. Content was delivered by keeping in mind the age and mindset of students. Therefore, cartoon and clip art illustration were used to ensure better understanding.

Students were strained upon adopting healthy habits which include hand washing, early to bed and early to rise routine, playing safe games, and improving eating habits. Activities were arranged which enforced students to choose healthy and safe habits for themselves and which make them realize the consequences of bad habits on their health.

At last, goodie bags which include hygiene kit and healthy food items were distributed among children to ensure sustainability of the session and to promote safe and healthy habits.

Visit of Home School and Hospital by Members of HOPE USA

Amongst the population of more than 200 million, 51% of them are females whereas, remaining constitutes the male population in Pakistan. Knowing such fact yet females are left behind when considering the right to education. However, trends have been changed in urban areas but still there is a huge gap between education of males and females in rural and underprivileged areas.
In the midst of such vicinity resides a community of Gadap town- northwestern part of Karachi with the Hub River on its western limits. This is a remote area with low literacy rate and less focus of female’s education. Previously, this area had no schools for girls and few schools for boys;those were far away from their primary location with low facilities. HOPE- an NGO in Pakistan under the leadership of Dr. MubinaAgboatwalla- child specialist in Karachi initiated a step to fill this gap while providing free education to these girls at primary and secondary level. Here girls are not allowed to leave their home for education hence considering such value HOPE has started Home school where 100 girls are getting quality education at free of cost.
Girls are receiving education at the standards of other schools and are able to compete in the board exams annually. Last year 35 girls appear in matriculation exam and this year 15 students appear for the 9th class exam which they cleared with excellence.
HOPE – a educational NGO in Pakistan also invites its sponsors and supporters to visit such schools which not only encourage the students but it also helps us to improve the school’s status. Recently, one of our supporters from United Stated visited our schools where they share and cherish moments with students. They also discussed the issues of teachers and gave suggestions on it. Among such issues, lack of school uniforms was the major one. Therefore, they also announced to distribute free uniforms to the students. The sponsors distributed sweets among students and teachers.

Soon after their visit to school they move on to visited HOPE Hospital where they survey different wards and inquire about different facilities that are available for the patients. They also interacted with the patients and staff and gave opportunity to them to share their concerns.

Overall, the visit was a cherish-able memory for sponsors who appreciated HOPE- an NGO in Pakistan efforts for contributing for the betterment of society especially for the women.

Another Step towards Spreading Education

Education makes a well-known personality. It increases the ability of thought and gives the address of right things. Education is the first and foremost rights of every human being. Yet many people are deprived from availing it. According to Federal Education Ministry of Pakistan, the overall literacy rate is 46 per cent, while only 26 per cent of girls are literate.
The rural areas of the country are greatly affected by lack of education. There are very few schools in these areas and the quality of education is very low. Moreover, due to the low financial status of the families, the children are unable to attain education. These children have to work with their parents to run the households and ensure that there is at least food to fill their stomachs. Also, it is quite known that in the rural areas, girls are prevented from getting education as they are prohibited from leaving their homes and are responsible for household chores. All this indicates that there is a dire need of free, quality education for these children.
Considering these facts, HOPE- a educational NGO in Pakistan believes in education for all. HOPE works relentlessly to provide free quality to the children belonging to underprivileged areas who are often neglected. HOPE- a NGO in Pakistan also collaborates with organization who has similar aim of eradicating illiteracy from Pakistan.
Recently, HOPE under the leadership of Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla- child specialist in Karachi, has join hands with Sindh Education Foundation- responsible for  providing free and quality education for the children around Sindh to contribute towards it’s goal. Such effort includes mutual agreement on establishing school in mutually selected area i.e. district Badin- Sindh, where there is sever lack of middle and high schools. Children belonging to such are have to travel miles away from there home in order to avail such facilities.
The children that will be enrolled in HOPE Middle and High will receive quality education at free of cost which will be equal to the urban education. This will help children to compete with confidence and meet the market demands. Eventually, by taking such initiative HOPE-a educational NGO in Pakistan  in brightening the future of each children come across the way of HOPE’s efforts.
